Seeking Jesus: Journey to the Cross

Lenten Journey 2012

Cross_celtic_lg Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the season of Lent.  Lent is a forty day period of preparation in anticipation of Holy Week and Easter.  The forty day journey is a time to focus on Jesus and how much we need grace in our lives in order to live a transformed life that reflects God’s love.

Throughout church history, Christians have used these forty days to look at habits, attitudes, and behaviors that may need to change in order to draw closer to God.  Many people give up something to draw closer to God during this season, and they may take on a new spiritual discipline such as prayers of repentence, spiritual journaling, and acts of service.

Below you will find a number of resources and opportunities that we hope will enable you to seek Jesus and move closer to Him during this Lent season.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday2 When:  Wednesday, February 22
Where:  Williams Street Location
Time:  6:30 AM - 8:00 PM

On Wednesday, February 22, the sanctuary at our Williams Street location will be open from 6:30 AM – 8:00 PM for our Ash Wednesday Prayer Walk.  Our theme this year is “A Journey with Christ.”  Families and people of all ages are invited to experience a personal connection with Christ as we reflect on the life of Jesus (from His birth all the way to the cross).  The central symbol of the day is the ashes made from burning last year’s palm branches.  Ash is a traditional symbol of mourning appearing throughout the Biblical writings and representing the dust from which God created humanity and the dust to which humanity is destined to return (Genesis 2:7; 3:19).  Come and stay as long as you want.  Enter this sacred space and visit the various stations designed to help you draw closer to God during the Lenten season.
